The Outer Shell

The plastic (or aluminum, depending on the device) housing isn't just there to look good on your Instagram story. It's doing three jobs at once: protecting the internal components from drops and pressure, holding everything in perfect alignment so airflow works the way it's supposed to, and (on most modern disposables) housing a small LED that lights up when you take a puff, letting you know the battery's still alive.


The Battery

Every disposable runs on a small lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery, usually somewhere in the 400-650mAh range depending on the device size. The E-Liquid Reservoir

This is the tank: the sealed chamber that holds your e-liquid until it's needed. In a disposable, this reservoir is pre-filled at the factory and sealed shut, which is why you can't just crack one open and top it off (please don't try). The reservoir is connected directly to the wicking material, which pulls liquid toward the coil on demand.


The Wicking Material

Tucked between the reservoir and the coil is the wick, usually cotton or a cotton-blend material. Its entire job is to soak up e-liquid and feed it steadily to the coil, the same way a candle wick feeds wax to a flame. This is the atomization part of "atomizer," if you were wondering. The Airflow System

Tiny intake vents built into the device pull air in every time you inhale. That air mixes with the vapor coming off the coil, which is what gives you that satisfying throat hit and cloud size. The Sensor & Firing Mechanism

Most disposables are draw-activated, meaning a tiny airflow sensor detects when you're inhaling and automatically fires the coil, no buttons required. That sensor is also what triggers the LED light, and on some devices, it's tied into basic safety features that cut power if something's not firing correctly.


Putting It All Together

Every puff is really a five-part relay: you draw → the sensor fires → the battery powers the coil → the wick feeds liquid to the coil → the coil turns it to vapor → airflow carries it to you. All of that happens in a fraction of a second, every single time, until the battery or the e-liquid runs out, whichever comes first.
